How to Make Wire Jewelry Techniques a Creative and Easy Way to Make Unique Wire Jewelry Designs

Learning How to make wire jewelry can give you a versatile technique you can use to design jewelry. It is used in conjunction with beads, stones and gemstones.

Wire can be formed to create earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings.

In metalsmithing, wire is integrated in a creative way to add texture and is also widely used to create components such as jump rings and clasps. You can use it to build bracelets or pendants. However, you can make a large variety of jewelry by simply bending wire into various shapes and soldering or “cold connecting” these shapes together.

This is a necklace I created by forging wire into flowing curves.

It is available in different size gauges.

The larger the gauge number, the smaller the diameter of wire.

When you learn how to make wire jewelry can add a creative and easy way to make fun jewelry projects, you would probably use anywhere from 14-gauge to 26-gauge.
The most popular seizes for wire wrapping are 18-gauge and 20-gauge.
When you are adding beads to your designs you need to use 24 to 26-gauge

I use all different gauges and incorporate them in creative ways into my designs.

It also comes in many shapes as well as sizes:

  • Round is used most often for creating findings.
  • Half Round is often used to wrap around other pieces of wire to connect them.
  • Square wire is most often used for wrapping projects such as creating a focal point for a cabochon or making a bangle bracelet.
